Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Troy Oswald announce that based upon an investigation by the Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Jetor Brown, 25, from Paterson, was arrested on October 13th in relation to a shooting investigation that took place August 24, in what was initially reported as the area of Governor St and Carroll Street but was later determined to be the area of Park Avenue.
Police say Mr. Brown is charged with Aggravated Assault, Second Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree; Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons, Second Degree; and Aggravated Assault, Third Degree.
In addition Mr. Brown is charged with four counts of Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree and Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons, Second Degree from an incident that occurred June 12, 2019.
Mr. Brown is also charged with Escape, Second Degree and Resisting Arrest, Fourth Degree from an incident that occurred during his arrest on October 13, 2019 Jordany Santana, 19, from Paterson, New Jersey, was arrested on August 24, 2019 for Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree offense and four counts of Unlawful Possession, Second Degree of a weapon from an incident that occurred June 12, 2019.
Police say on August 24, members of the Paterson Police Department were advised that a 19-year- old male Paterson resident arrived at St Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson for treatment of a non-fatal gunshot wound.
Based on the investigation Mr. Brown was charged. It was also determined that both Mr. Brown and Mr. Santana possessed multiple handguns on June 12th.
The sentencing exposure for Mr. Brown on Second Degree Aggravated Assault is 5-10 years New Jersey State Prison with 85% of the term to be served before parole pursuant to the No Early Release Act and 3 years parole supervision; on each count of Second Degree, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun it is 5-10 years New Jersey State Prison with a minimum of 42 months before parole eligibility pursuant to the Graves Act; on Second Degree Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose it is 5-10 years New Jersey State Prison with 42 months of parole ineligibility pursuant to the Graves Act, on Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons it is 5-10 years New Jersey State Prison with a 5 year period of parole ineligibility pursuant to the Graves Act, on 3rd Degree Aggravated Assault it is 3-5 years New Jersey State Prison, on Second Degree Escae it is 5-10 years New Jersey State Prison, and on Fourth Degree Resisting Arrest it is 18 months New Jersey State Prison.
The sentencing exposure for Mr. Santana on each count of Second Degree, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun it is 5-10 years New Jersey State Prison with a minimum of 42 months before parole eligibility pursuant to the Graves Act.
The State filed a motion for pretrial detention regarding Mr. Santana that was granted on September 13, 2019. The State filed a motion for pretrial detention for Mr. Brown and that motion is scheduled October 18, 2019.
A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
