According to Hudson County officials, on Friday, October 4, Superior Court Judge Mark Nelson sentenced 35-year-old Eric Reyes of Jersey City to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison for Endangering the Welfare of a Child for making explicit images of minors and Sexual Assault by Contact of two young girls who were related to his girlfriend.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges on June 17, 2019, according to officials.
Officials say Reyes will have to serve 85 percent of his sentence without the opportunity for parole under the No Early Release Act. The defendant is subject to Parole Supervision for Life and Megan’s Law registration after his prison term is completed.
According to police, Reyes was arrested on November 10, 2018, after his girlfriend discovered videos on his cellphone of her adult sister using the bathroom and a young girl taking a shower.
The following day, officials say his girlfriend located and provided additional videos to the police of the defendant recording himself while sexually abusing her two young relatives. A search of his electronic devices also revealed explicit images of minors.
The case was investigated by the Jersey City Police Department and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit.
Assistant Prosecutor Jane Weiner represented the State.
