Police took two suspects into custody and charged them with robbery after they took a cell phone from a person in Newark's Downtown Monday morning.
According to police, the incident happened near the intersection of Broad Street and Lincoln Park, where the victim was walking down the street using his phone. Police say the male and female suspects lurked on the victim before snatching his phone while he was still using it.
According to police, the victim chased the pair to the vicinity of Branford and Treat Place, where police moved in and took the couple into custody without further incident.
There were no injuries reported.
Police warn residents always to be aware of their surroundings and limit cell phone use while walking on the streets for your safety.
