Police closed Route 206 for several hours in the Ad they investigated a pedestrian strike that killed a child Monday morning.
According to police, a 2-year-old boy was killed after being struck by a dump truck in Stanhope.
Police say the fatal pedestrian strike happened around 11:15 a.m. near Acorn Street where residents found the boy lying on the ground suffering severe injuries.
The unidentified boy was rushed after EMS attempted CPR but he succumbed to his injuries according to police.
Police say the driver of the truck stayed on the scene and that the incident remains under investigation.
