Students walking home from school and pedestrians scrambled for cover after a gunman produced a weapon and began to fire multiple rounds on a street in the city's West Ward this afternoon.
It happened at approximately 3:37 p.m. in the vicinity of 346 South Orange Avenue where a ShotSpotter activation alerted police of nearly a half dozen rounds.
Officers arrived at the scene and found evidence that a shooting occurred, but after a search, there were no victims located.
Police say the suspect fled the scene after firing at an unknown target.
The incident is under investigation.
