Firefighters in Ocean County battled a raging two-alarm fire that tore through multiple apartments at a housing development in Lakewood Township Friday morning.
According to preliminary reports, firefighters were called to the High Point apartment complex -located at 458 Prospect Street- to investigate reports of a fire with occupants possibly trapped shortly before 1 a.m.
Crews arrived at the scene and found intense fire tearing through an apartment and extending to others inside the development.
A woman was rushed to an area hospital suffering severe injuries according to reports. Police say there were two other non-life threatening injuries as well.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in under one hour but not before extensive damage and destruction was caused.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
