According to police on Thursday, August 29, 2019, at approximately 12:10 p.m., members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested a Jersey City woman on charges that included aggravated sexual assault involving a 14-year-old juvenile male.
Police say Ms. Elyse Castillo, 45, was arrested at approximately 12:10 p.m. at the Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City. She was arrested without incident.
Castillo has been charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2, a first-degree crime; Endangering the Welfare of a Minor in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4, a second-degree crime; and other third- and fourth-degree crimes.
Castillo is employed as a substitute teacher by the Jersey City Board of Education and the last day she reported to work was in November 2018.
The charges involve crimes that allegedly occurred between June 2018 and August 2019 in the home of the defendant on Pavonia Avenue in Jersey City.
Castillo was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny pending her first appearance.
The Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion for pretrial detention of the defendant.
A hearing is scheduled for Thursday, September 5, 2019.
