Police in newark are investigating an aggravated assault that left an adult male seriously injured in Newark's South Ward overnight.
According to preliminary reports, police were called to the lobby of 455 Elizabeth Avenue at approximately 11 p.m. to investigate reports of an injured person.
Officers arrived at the scene and found an unidentified male suffering a severe face and head injuries at that location.
Police say the victim reported that the suspect sprayed him in the face with mace then smashed him in the head with a bat before fleeing the scene.
The motive for the attack has not been determined.
No arrests have been made.
