A Newark school board member, staff, students and administrators at a public high school joined forces to assist the community with back to school supplies.
According to a statement released by officials, on Friday, August 23rd, about 100 students from the community attended the Technology High School hosted its 2nd Annual "Back 2 School Kickoff".
Officials say this event was designed to help families prepare for a successful 2019-2020 school year.
"We understand that it may be financially difficult for families to provide school supplies - especially families with more than one student.
Our focus is to provide our families with the tools needed but most importantly to create and foster relationships to ensure that our families know we are here to support them any way possible", Technology High School Principal Mr. Edwin Reyes said.
“There are families in need that may not know where to go and there are services and people in the community that would like to help - then you have us to help bridge the gap - reaching our common goal which is student and family success!”, Principal Mr. Edwin Reyes continued.
According to Newark Public School’s Board member A’Dorian Murray-Thomas, the event was a success for the kids and a small burden for parents who could use the help.
"What a great morning with the friends and families of Technology High School’s BackToSchool Community Celebration. From a manicure station, free books, great food, vendors, and a host of other activities, this was truly one for the books" Technology HIgh School officials said.
I want to send thanks to Technology High School’s Community Engagement Specialist Ms. Ballester and Principal Reyes for all you do for our students and families" Newark School Board Member A’Dorian Murray-Thomas said.
The event also included supplies and information tables provided by Central Ward Councilwoman LaMonica R. McIver.
