EMS rushed a severely burned child to Livingston's St. Barnabus Burn Center for treatment after a fire ignited inside an apartment in Newark's North Ward on Friday night.
According to preliminary reports, firefighters rushed to an apartment complex in the single-digit block of Riverside Court at approximately 9:27 p.m. after receiving reports of a fire with possible trapped occupants.
Crews arrived at the scene and swiftly extinguished a small blaze involving curtains that ultimately extended to the rug inside the apartment according to officials.
Police officials have not released the current condition of the child and the cause of the fire at this time.
The incident remains under investigation.
