The Union County Freeholder Board is pleased to announce that the YWCA of Union County will now operate both the Union County Family Justice Center and the Children’s Waiting Room of the Cherry Street Courthouse Annex located at 2 Cherry Street in Elizabeth. The Children’s Waiting room is only available to individuals conducting official business at the Cherry Street Courthouse Annex.
“The waiting room provides children with a safe, welcoming environment that is separated from the business of the court,” said Freeholder Chair Bette Jane Kowalski. “The Freeholder Board is very proud to support this important service for parents and caregivers, free of charge.”
The Children’s Waiting Room is located on the second floor of the Family Justice Center, also known as the Cherry Street Courthouse Annex. It is funded by the Freeholder Board and administered by the YWCA of Union County.
The waiting room is open free of charge for toilet-trained children ages 2 to 12. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The waiting room is closed for one hour each day, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Activities include fun and educational games, puzzles, blocks, books, artwork and daily storytime.
