Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Montclair Police Chief Todd Conforti announced today that late last night the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office arrested and charged a son with the fatal stabbing of his father, Mr. Jose Correa, 51, of Woodland Park.
Police say son, Josiah Correa, 24, of Montclair was arrested at the apartment he shared with his mother in the 300 block of Orange Road in Montclair.
The preliminary investigation indicates the father suffered multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:16 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9.
The son has been charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose according to police.
The investigation, which is being handled by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force and the Montclair Police Department, is active and ongoing.
The charges against the son are accusations.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
