Motorists sat in more than two hours of traffic delays on Route 1&9 as police investigated two separate car crashes that occurred in Newark on Saturday night.
According to police, emergency responders rushed to the northbound lanes of Route 1&9 near McClellan Street where they arrived to find a car crashed into a pole at approximately 1 a.m.
Police say the collision caused the pole and wires to fall on the highway which resulted in substantial delays backing into Elizabeth.
Emergency responder also assisted at the scene of a crash that occurred near the airport that caused backups on the highway.
There were no fatal injuries reported for either crash according to preliminary reports. and the cause of both collisions are under investigation.
