There were no severe injuries reported of officers involved in a crash at a location in the city's South Ward on Thursday morning.
According to preliminary reports, the single-car crash happened just outside The Shani Baraka Women's Resource Center located at the intersection of Clinton and Johnson avenues shortly before 5:25 a.m. where the officer somehow lost control then plowed into a light pole at that location.
Authorities say the police cruiser's airbags deployed and the pole landed on top of the vehicle.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation and it is not clear if the officer was involved in a pursuit at this time.
Newark Police officials have been notified for additional information.
