Firefighters in Paterson battled a massive fire that tore through a row of homes at a location in the city Tuesday morning.
Two firefighters -a Captain and fire Chief- suffered non-life threatening injuries after fighting heavy flames that engulfed several homes at 480 Summer Street just before 1:30 a.m.
Fire spread to about four additional homes as flames stretched to neighboring buildings according to firefighters. According to officials, additional manpower has been requested to the scene due to humid weather conditions causing firefighters to suffer exhaustion.
The injured firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion and smoke inhalation.
Officials say 44 residents were displaced, but none of them suffered injuries. the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
