Kean University and Elizabeth Police Departments chased down two suspects who stole an Amazon Delivery van in Elizabeth on Wednesday evening.
According to a statement released by Elizabeth Spokeswoman Kelly Martins, the incident happened at around 8:41 pm in the 700 block of Westfield Avenue.
Spokeswoman Martins said the driver of a Nissan Amazon van was making a delivery when two individuals jumped in and sped off.
According to Spokeswoman Martins, a city resident saw the incident unfold then followed the vehicle and notified police.
Police officials were told that the van was heading toward Green Lane in Union.
Spokeswoman Martins said police then spotted the van making a right onto Morris Avenue and proceeded into Kean University.
After receiving officer’s lights and sirens to stop, the driver of the stolen van sped away and exited the Kean University campus and made a right onto Morris Avenue into Trotters Lane.
Spokeswoman Martins said the suspects made their way into Oakwood Manor then bailed from the vehicle on foot
According to Spokeswoman Martin, with assistance from Kean Police, Elizabeth officers were able to locate then apprehend a 21 and 27-year-old residents from Newark on Irvington Avenue near Elmwood Place, without further incident.
They are charged with 3rd-degree theft, 2nd degree eluding, obstruction, resisting arrest by flight And theft of a cellphone according to Spokeswoman Martins.
