Hudson County police officials were notified and requested to be on the lookout for a vehicle belonging to an off-duty officer that was stolen then pursued into the county on Wednesday night.
Newark Police would only say the incident is under investigation, but according to preliminary reports, officers began to pursue a vehicle occupied by thieves who 'stole' the blue BMW 5 series.
The car has a reported NJ license plate numbers "N80-GKD" and reportedly had the officer's police radio, weapon, and other tools used during daily police responsibilities.
With police in pursuit, the driver of the officer's stolen car sped in the eastbound lanes of I-280 where officers lost sight of the car on Harrison Avenue in Kearny. The vehicle was last seen heading toward Jersey City according to reports.
Police officials did not immediately release what municipality the officer is assigned.
