Firefighters are on the scene of a multi-alarm fire that tore through a home in Newark's West Ward at this time.
According to preliminary reports, good samaritans forced entry into a door of a home to assist residents from a residence located at South 10th Street and South Orange Avenue as heavy fire ripped through the roof of the house at approximately 2:33 p.m.
Firefighters from the 9th Street firehouse raced the short distance and began a search of the fully involved structure where no trapped or injured occupants were located upon their initial search.
**UPDATE:** Fire has extended to two (2) additional buildings. Two wood-framed buildings and a garage at this time. This is a 4-alarm blaze. The fire displaced 8 people.
As of 2:44 p.m., the fire is active and burning out of control.
