A gunman who fired off a barrage of bullets while chasing a vehicle occupied by two women overnight has police in Essex County on the search for the assailant.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred at around midnight and just at the border of East Orange and Orange -near the Speedway gas station on Central Avenue- where frantic witnesses dialed 911 when they observed a white Jeep arrive near South Harrison Street and without apparently being provoked, began to open fire on a black vehicle that was occupied by two women.
Reports say the suspects repeatedly fired at the car down Central Avenue causing the driver to lose control and crash into a traffic light and poles before coming to a halt at the Walgreens according to reports.
Fast responding police officers arrived at the scene and notified EMS after they found the victims suffering gunshot wounds at that location.
The pair were rushed to University Hospital in Newark where they remain in serious but stable condition according to officials.
Police collected multiple shell casings on Central Avenue that stretched from the original point of the shooting to the Walgreens store according to reports.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation and the suspects remain at-large.
