Detective for The Essex County Prosecutor's Officer are conducting a homicide investigation as they look into the motive behind a shooting that killed one person in Irvington Township during the overnight hours.
According to preliminary reports, police responded to reports of an injured person in the 100 block of Carolina Avenue before 12:15 a.m.
Units arrived at the scene found the severely injured victim who suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was later pronounced dead by medical personnel according to The Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
There were no arrests reported and the identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
