There are no injuries reported in a fire that ignited inside of a vacant Newark Public School building this afternoon.
According to officials, firefighters were alerted to a fire that ignited inside the American History High School located at the intersection of Warren and Nuttman street at approximately 12:27 p.m.
Firefighters arrived to find thick smoke billowing from the basement of the three-story brick structure according to officials.
Police say a black male -possible suspect- with dreadlocks was observed running from the vicinity of the building shortly before the fire became visible to the outside.
Firefighters stretched several lines in an effort to get the stubborn fire under control but have not been successful as of 1:20 p.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
