A fire that killed a 67-year-old Long Branch man early Friday morning has authorities investigating the cause.
According to officials, at approximately 2:07 a.m., Long Branch Police Department received multiple calls of a structure fire at 135 Charles Street.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire at the home.
Officials say a resident - later identified as Thomas Booth III, 67 - was located inside and removed from the residence by Long Branch Police Department.
Authorities say Booth was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:15 a.m. A post-mortem exam is scheduled for later today.
Police say the Long Branch Fire Department conducted fire suppression efforts with assistance from Neptune Fire Department.
The fire was deemed under control at 2:34 a.m. Long Branch, Elberon and Monmouth Beach First Aid Squads all responded to assist.
No further injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation authorities said.
