Honorable Frederick J. Schuck Friday sentenced Delronn Mahan, 21, on Aggravated Assault and weapons charges stemming form the shooting of a Camden Metro Police Officer on November 1, 2017.
According to authorities, on that date, Metro Officer Patrick O’Hanlon was on patrol in the area of South 9th Street and Chelton Avenue. Officer O’Hanlon conducted a pedestrian stop on the defendant and two other males. Delronn Mahan then fled and Officer O’Hanlon chased him.
Officials say when Officer O’Hanlon attempted to take defendant into custody, Delronn Mahan physically resisted. During the struggle, the defendant pulled out a handgun and shot Officer O’Hanlon in the upper thigh.
Pursuant to the terms of a plea agreement entered on February 11, 2019, Delronn Mahan was sentenced to 7 years in New Jersey State Prison for Aggravated Assault. He will have to serve almost 6 years of his sentence, before he is eligible for parole.
That sentence is to run consecutively to the sentence of 8 years, 4 without parole, that he received for a charge of Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
