Police officials in Newark has issued a warrant for the arrest of** Mr. Zahkhai Perry, 21, of Newark**, who is wanted in connection with an aggravated assault shooting that occurred last night.
According to a statement released by police, shortly before 7:35 p.m., police responded to Beth Israel Hospital on a call of a woman arriving who was shot.
Police say the woman was shot by a man she knows while at the Exxon Gas Station located at 1 Elizabeth Avenue.
The victim crashed her vehicle while fleeing and was transported to the hospital by a concerned citizen according to police.
Doctors treated the victim then released her police said. The suspect fled in a 2004 black Jeep Cherokee.
Detectives investigating this incident developed sufficient evidence to secure a warrant for the arrest of Zahkhai Perry on charges of Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
Police say Perry is described as 6-ft. tall, 175 lbs and has a medium brown complexion, black hair and brown eyes.
Perry also has a tattoo on his left arm of birds and a sunset according to police.
This investigation is active and ongoing.
