Members of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Fire/Environmental Unit on March 7th were awarded the International Association of Arson Investigators John West Sr. Memorial Juvenile Fire Setters Grant for 2019.
Lieutenant Stephen Ortiz and Detective Luis Goncalves of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Fire/Environmental Unit accepted the grant on behalf of the Morris County Juvenile Firesetter Prevention Program. The grant was awarded in Atlantic City at the Annual International Conference of the IAAI.
The grant, which is valued at $1,000, will allow the Morris County Juvenile Firesetter Program to host and purchase materials for a training event. The Juvenile Firesetter prevention program will provide training for Morris County law enforcement juvenile detectives, fire officials, social workers, and school counselors.
Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp stated, “On behalf of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, I would like to thank the International Association of Arson Investigators for awarding this grant. The funds will be utilized to provide important training for the approximately 24 juveniles enrolled in the Morris County Juvenile Firesetter Prevention Program”.
