A serious crash that occurred on the New Jersey Turnpike near Newark Liberty International Airport Thursday morning has police investigating the cause.
According to preliminary reports, police responded to exit 13A in Elizabeth sometime around 6 a.m. for a report of a single-vehicle crash.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 58-year-old Keansburg man was heading south on the Turnpike when he struck the guard rail near milepost 101.1 in Elizabeth.
State Police officials say the driver was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
