An early morning rain storm with strong winds that lingered in the Northern New Jersey region caused high voltage power lines to fall then ignite a gas main on a street in Union Sunday morning.
Residents in the vicinity of Union and Oakland avenues observed from their front doors and windows as the raging fire erupted from a gas main at approximately 5:10 a.m.
Police and firefighters arrived at the scene and secured the area as flames elevated from the ground to about 6ft in height according to on the scene reports.
The did not extend to any homes nor were there any injuries reported.
The incident is under investigation.
