An employee of home health aid business has been arrested on theft charges after police say she embezzled almost $60,000 from the business over the last couple of years.
According to police, in December 2016 a local business owner came to police headquarters and filed a report indicating that her employee, Kadia Williams, was reportedly stealing money from her home health aid business.
Officials say the business owner and her accountant discovered that clients had sent in checks to the business but Williams allegedly redirected the checks and did not deposit them into the business account, instead deposited the checks into her own personal accounts.
Detective Kenneth Gruener of the Financial Crimes Section ensued an investigation that revealed Williams also wrote business checks and payroll checks to herself and then deposited them into her accounts.
Authorities subsequently charged Kadia Williams with seven counts of theft and/or forgery.
Police arrested Williams on Feb. 11th and ultimately released her with a court appearance date of Feb. 25th at the Superior Court in Elizabeth.
Detective Gruener charged the former employee with the theft of almost $60,000.
