Several suspects wanted for firing a gun on a street in Newark were taken into custody after a pursuit.
According to preliminary reports, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the 100 block of Clinton Avenue at approximately 6 p.m. Thursday evening.
Units arrived at the scene found evidence that a shooting occurred, but after they searched the area, they did not find any victims at that location.
Witnesses told police that a vehicle, occupied by several suspects, arrived in the area and fired at least one shot before speeding away from the scene.
Police reportedly spotted the suspected vehicle that was described by witnesses drivinbg in the vicinity of Clinton Avenue and Leslie Street then attempted to pull the driver over who ignored officers and sped away at approximately 11 p.m. according to police.
Officers followed the vehicle to South 20th Street where one of the suspects bailed from the car and engaged police in a foot pursuit that ended in his arrest a short distance away. Police say two other suspects were taken into custody before they could get out of the car.
The incident remains under investigation.
There were no injuries reported.
