A pedestrian suffered severe injuries after a vehicle struck them on a busy NJ highway during the overnight hours in Newark.
NJ State Police temporarily closed traffic in the westbound lanes of I-78 near exit 55 in Newark at approximately 4 a.m. to investigate reports of an injured person.
Units arrived at the scene found the unidentified victim laying on the ground suffering severe injuries according to reports.
The incident is in the early stages of the investigation.
**NJSP UPDATE 9:32 pm**: Officials have confirmed with RLS Media's weekend crew that this incident is a hit and run with the pedestrian victim suffering fatally. The location of the incident was 78 westbound near mile marker 55.4 Newark at about 3:30 am.
