Union police are looking for the person responsible for tying up restaurant workers and robbing them at gunpoint right before the restaurant opened for business.
According to authorities, on Feb. 3rd, police received a 9-1-1 call sometime around 6:30 a.m. from a person reporting an armed robbery at Taco Bell, located at 2704 Rt. 22, in Union.
Responding officers located an employee who told them that he was inside the restaurant prepping to open the establishment but needed to go to the parking lot area. As he attempted to come into the business, an armed individual came up to him from behind and ordered him to let him inside.
The employee said once the suspect was inside he tied him up and the other workers and took approximately $5,000.00 in cash from the business and fled the scene.
Officials say the suspect was wearing a mask and could not obtain a description from the workers or from surveillance footage since the suspect had his face covered.
Further investigation led police to videos from other area businesses that showed the suspect getting into an SUV and fleeing east on Rt. 22.
Authorities are following up on a few leads but are asking anyone who may have information on this incident to contact Detective Sergio Pereira at 908-851-5030 or SPereira@uniontownship.com.
