A 19-year-old Newark man and a juvenile were taken into custody on weapon charges in connection with an incident that occurred on Jan. 26th.
According to authorities, police patrolling the area of Stratford Place near Avon Avenue around 6:45 p.m. observed two males with marijuana standing inside a residential building.
Police say when Tahir Goldsmith, 19, of Newark, became aware of police presence, he attempted to flee but was ultimately apprehended and found in possession of a loaded 9MM handgun, 10 vials of cocaine, one plastic bag containing marijuana and $835.00 in suspected proceeds from drug sales.
Officials charged Goldsmith with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, two counts of CDS Possession (cocaine and marijuana), Obstruction of the Administration of the Law, Possession of CDS with the Intent to Distribute, CDS Distribution within 500-ft. of a Park and CDS Distribution within 1,000-ft. of a School.
Authorities say the other suspect, a juvenile, was found in possession of 17 vials of cocaine, 8 glassine envelopes of heroin, 30 Alprazolam pills and one brown cigar wrap containing marijuana. He is charged with four counts of CDS Possession (marijuana, cocaine, heroin and pills).
These charges are merely accusations.
Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
