There is a large crime scene established in a neighborhood in Newark's South Ward as police are on the scene of a crash with fatal injuries reported.
According to preliminary reports, police closed off a large area around the vicinity of Bergen Street between Clinton and Avon avenues at approximately 5:30 a.m. to investigate a crash at the intersection of Madison Avenue.
Upon arrival, they observed injured occupants inside a vehicle that crashed into a pole then struck a house according to reports.
At least one person was confirmed dead from unspecified injuries inside the vehicle. A weapon was reportedly found at the location.
The investigation is in the very early stages and The Essex County Prosecutor's Office will take the lead on this incident.
