A tree that fell on a power line in a Newark North Ward community temporarily disconnected power to hundreds of homes and businesses in the area.
It happened in the 100 block of Garside Street at approximately 5:20 p.m. where police were alerted by residents of the fallen tree according to preliminary reports.
Officers arrived at the scene and secured the area before they notified PSEG and a tree removal crew.
PSEG temporarily shut down power in the area so that crews could remove the tree froom the power lines before they could perform necessary repairs.
One vehicle was damaged due to the incident and PSEG had the power restored to residents before 10:45 p.m.
Strong winds that passed through the region is to blame for the fallen tree.
