Authorities announced that Jalil Holmes, one of two men shot at Newport Centre mall Friday has been charged with three counts of attempted murder in connection with a shooting that occurred last week.
Officials say Holmes, 19, is accused of shooting two people Wednesday on Grant Avenue.
Jersey City spokeswoman Ashley Manz said Holmes was released from RWJ Barnabas Heath’s Jersey City Medical Center Sunday and charged with three counts of conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of aggravated assault and weapons offenses that include possession of a firearm by a felon.
According to authorities, Holmes is expected to make his first court appearance Wednesday before Hudson County Superior Court Judge Paul DePascale in the Hudson County Administration Building in Jersey City.
A preliminary investigation, revealed that a battle between two groups which ignited a fight Friday in the mall’s food court, ultimately led to the shooting sometime around 6:30 p.m. Holmes and the other victim struck by the gunfire were treated at area hospitals but have since been discharged.
Investigating detectives have released a photo of Ahmad Broadway who police believe was the gunman in the mall shooting.
Anyone with information on Broadway’s whereabouts is asked to contact police at 201-395-4000.
