There is an active investigation underway into the motive behind a stabbing that had one person suffer severe injuries in Jersey City during the overnight hours.
According to officials, police were called to the 600 block of Summit Avenue to investigate reports of an injured person at approximately 11:40 p.m.
Upon unit's arrival, they found an unidentified person suffering a stab wound to the chest at that location.
EMS rushed the victim to Jersey City Medical Center where doctors treated severe injuries according to preliminary reports.
Police requested a crime scene unit to assist in the investigation.
There were no arrests reported and the motive for the stabbing has not been released at this time.
