There is an active and ongoing investigation underway as police look into a shooting that caused serious injuries to one person in Elizabeth.
The early morning shooting happened at around 3:20 a.m. in the vicinity of 636 1st Avenue where police responded to reports of shots fired with a person injured inside a residence.
Several units arrived at the scene and immediately taped the area off after locating one person suffering a gunshot wound to the torso according to reports.
The victim was transported to University Hospital in Newark where doctors began to treat serious injuries.
Multiple shell casings were found at the scene.
According to preliminary reports, the victim refused to cooperate with police. The incident remains under investigation.
