A door left unsecured at a school in Montclair had a student come in visual contact with a homeless man who entered the building on Friday morning.
According to school officials, the unidentified student arrived at the school at around 7 a.m. when he spotted the man in smoking a cigarette in the lobby of the auditorium.
Officials say the student observed the man through the entrance doorway and did not try to proceed in, and the man did not make physical contact with the student.
Officials say the student contacted police which prompted school security guards to respond.
According to officials, the door that allows teachers to enter the building was left open allowing the man to make access to the school.
Officials did not say why the door was not monitored by security personnel.
There were no arrests reported and the incident remains under investigation.
