Summit Public School District officials announced that two students have been diagnosed with a whooping cough, a ‘highly contagious’ infection disease.
Officials say students who are vaccinated may be exposed but may only have a mild case, but those who aren't treated may experience fierce symptoms.
The infection can be spread through the air by coughing or sneezing.
The New Jersey Department of Health requires all students entering 6th grade to get a booster shot with a whooping cough vaccine.
No other cases have been reported as of Wednesday.
