A 26-year-old Jersey City man was sentenced to eight years in prison Thursday for killing a man in 2015.
According to authorities, on November 15, 2015, DeAndre Thomas shot and killed Davonte Carswell, 23, inside an Ocean Avenue bodega in Jersey City that doubled as an illegal gambling joint.
Officials say Thursday Hudson County Superior Court Judge John Young sentenced Thomas to eight years for aggravated manslaughter and ten years for the gun offense.
Authorities say that under the plea deal, his prison terms will be served concurrently, and he will be eligible for parole after serving nearly seven years.
