A scholar-athlete and respected Newark Central High School gridiron football player has made his decision to continue the tradition that his brother laid out at Philadelphia's Temple University for the fall 2019 season.
According to a statement released by officials at The Newark Public School's, Mohamed Kamara made it official in a letter of intent signing that occurred at the high school at 11 a.m. on Wednesday morning in front of over two dozen students, staff administrators, family and friends
Officials say The 6'2" tall 17-year-old Central Bule Devil and senior linebacker chose Temple over Rutgers and Colorado State t continue in the steps of his brother Amara Kamara who made history for the football program as a 4-year starter from 2007 to 2011.
Officials say the elder Amara was the 2006 defensive player of the year for the league.
4-year starter Mohamed finished his Blue Devil career with 459 tackles, 14 forced fumbles, 25 sacks, three interceptions, and seven fumble recoveries according to school officials.
Mohamed racked up 2nd Team all state,1st team all group 2,1st team all-conference honors to close his career as a Blue Devil officials said.
With over 1,000 on the SAT, Mohamed is set to tackle the rigors of college life as Temple prepares to welcome the Central Blue Devil into their football program for the fall of 2019.
