Old Bridge Crash Victim Critical; Off-Duty Sayreville Officer Charged in DWI, Assault by Auto

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief William Volkert of the Old Bridge Police Department said today that an off-duty police officer is facing criminal charges stemming from a DWI and Assault by Auto.

 

Officials say Jeffrey Kutz, 57, an off-duty Sayreville Police Sergeant from Marlboro, is charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Assault by Auto, a third degree offense.

 

The incident took place on Route 9 South near Old Texas Road in Old Bridge, on Dec. 18th. The victim in this case is in critical condition and was airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.  

 

The investigation is being conducted by Officer Henry Penley of the Old Bridge Police Department in conjunction with the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office. Jeffrey Kutz is scheduled to appear in court on January 24, 2019, at the Middlesex County Courthouse.

 

The investigation is active and continuing.
