Police recovered shell casings at the scene of a shooting that injured two people in Newark on Saturday morning.
According to police, gunfire rang out in the vicinity of 488 Springfield Avenue at approximately 5:30 a.m. sending police to the scene where they arrived to find evidence that a shooting occurred but after a search of the area, no victims were found.
A short time later, police investigating at the crime scene were notified that two males arrived by private vehicle and entered the emergency department at University Hospital suffering gunshot wounds.
The extent of the victims' injuries could not immediately be confirmed as of 5:58 a.m.
There is an active and ongoing investigation underway by The Newark Police Major Crimes Unit.
