An East Orange man charged with several car burglaries in Union struck again a day after his release.
Officials say just a day after police arrested and charged Engelbel Bonano, 22, of Elizabeth and Akmid Henderson, 18, of East Orange, for multiple car burglaries in Union, Henderson struck again.
According to police, the day after Henderson was released, shortly before 9 p.m. Essex County Sheriff's officers in Newark came across a vehicle reported stolen out of Rockaway and were investigating it.
Police say shortly after the driver became aware of the officers presence he drove the car towards the officers - who were on foot - and almost ran them over. The officers chased the vehicle until it crashed. The suspect ensued a foot pursuit but Essex County Sheriff officers tackled the suspect and made the arrest.
Authorities identified the driver and only occupant of the car as Akmid Henderson who now faces more serious charges.
Three of the officers were transported to the hospital with injuries sustained during the chase and arrest.
Officials say Henderson is currently being held at the Essex County Jail.
