A 27-year-old New York man Wednesday admitted driving drunk in a fatal head-on crash in Sussex County.
According to authorities, on Jan. 29, 2016,
shortly after 6 p.m., police responded to a two-car crash on Route 565 in the area of Babtown Road where they found Robert Ritter Jr., 48, of Greenwood Lake, New York dead inside his vehicle, while the other driver - Matthew Heyman, of Vernon - was standing outside of Ritter’s car.
Officials say Matthew Heyman’s blood-alcohol level was .17 – more than double the legal limit.
In pleading guilty, Heyman admitted to being drunk during the crash, crossing the double-yellow center lines and causing a head-on crash that killed Ritter.
Heyman faces four years in prison when he is sentenced next year.
