Police in the Newark are on the search for suspects who are wanted for an armed robbery that resulted in shots fired with a person injured in the city's West Ward on Wednesday evening.
According to police, a citywide alert was made for officers to be on the lookout for a red or burgundy SUV that is wanted for a robbery with shots fired that injured a male at approximately 6:30 p.m.
Police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of 64 Chelsea Avenue where they arrived to find the victim suffering a gunshot injury to the leg.
EMS transported the victim to the hospital where doctors treated his injuries according to preliminary reports.
Police believe the same men are wanted for several armed robberies in East Orange shortly before the shooting. One of the suspects was reported as a black male who wore a red jacket and black pants during the robbery according to reports.
Newark Police set up a crime scene at the location of the shooting while East Orange officials could not be reached for public information regarding the robberies in their city.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
