Police are investigating a shooting that left a teenaged girl dead overnight.
Police say at approximately 11:35 p.m., Jersey City Police Department received a report of shots fired in the area of 76 Brinkerhoff Street in Jersey City.
Upon arrival, Jersey City Police Officers found an unresponsive female victim at that location with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body.
Police identified the victim as Jade Saunders, 17, of Jersey City, and medics pronounced her dead at the scene.
The cause and manner of death are pending an investigation by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
A second victim suffered non-life threatening injury and was also found at the scene police said.
The victim was transported by Emergency Medical Services to the Jersey City Medical Center where doctors treated then released him.
The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating this case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
