Linden elementary school teacher awarded $1,100 from Burlington

School No. 5 first-grade teacher Marissa Scorese was chosen by the Burlington department store to receive a $1,100 grant from the store’s Adopt a Classroom program.

The money for the grant came from Linden store employees soliciting donations from customers.

“I know this is going to go a long way,” Hanson said during an informal celebration for Scorese at the store on Friday, Oct. 5. “I have teacher friends myself, and a lot of time they have to take money out of their own pocket to do things for their students.”

Scorese said she wants to use the money to help with the School No. 5 garden, but also to improve her classroom, perhaps by updating her in-class library and reading area “to provide a warm and nurturing environment for my students.”

“I have been teaching in the Linden Public Schools for over 20 years, and it was very humbling to be the teacher selected to represent our district,” she said.
