Monmouth County authorities are investigating a crash that caused a tanker truck to overturn and fatally injuring two people on Saturday evening.
According to police, approximately 5 pm, the Colts Neck Police were called to an overturned tanker truck on the northbound side of State Highway 18 near mile marker 22.
Police say the driver and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene and their identities will not be released until family members have been notified.
The tanker contained a small amount of fuel oil, that spilled into the shoulder of the roadway and was being tended to by Monmouth County HazMat and the NJ DEP, who were coordinating with the trucking company for cleanup.
Police say no other vehicles were involved in this crash.
The crash is currently under investigation and the Colts Neck Police are asking if anyone witnessed the accident to contact Patrolman Savage at 732-780-7323.
