Several Injured in NJ Transit Bus Collision in Newark's North Ward

Authorities in Newark are investigating a crash that involved a NJ Transit bus in Newark's North Ward Saturday morning.

According to a preliminary investigation and information released to RLS Metro Breaking News weekend staff from NJ Transit, they have the incident occurring at approximately 10:40 a.m., just outside the Newark Police station, on the Broadway and Hinsdale side of the streets.

NJ Transit officials said bus number 9540 **-13 Line-** was traveling on Broadway with 26, passengers including the driver when the collision with a car took place.

According to NJ Transit officials, five passengers were taken to area hospitals and their condition could not be immediately confirmed.

Metro Breaking News crews on the scene observed an ambulance with about four people inside who all appeared to be alert, conscious and speaking to EMTs.

We are awaiting information from The Newark Police Department for an update, but our crews did not see the involved vehicle on the scene which appeared that the driver left after the crash.

**NPD UPDATED 12:30 p.m.:** "The driver of a red or burgundy Hyundai collided with the bus then sped away from the scene. None of the passengers on the bus suffered severe injuries. This incident remains under investigation".

The crash did not cause any delays on Broadway, and no other vehicles were involved.

The official cause of the crash remains under investigation.
